Burns & McDonnell has developed several reference CHP designs which are described below. All of these configurations represent modular, integrated energy systems which can be scaled to meet a wide variety of customer electric and thermal loads. Each of these onsite energy system alternatives are designed to maximize heat recovery and overall system efficiency while minimizing system emissions. The Burns & McDonnell CHP Project Approach can help our clients identify the CHP system that is most appropriate to their facility. Select the links below to view a schematic of each alternative.

Alternative 1 – CHP with Solar Centaur 50 Turbine & 2500 ton Heat Recovery ABS Chiller: Solar Centaur 50 Combustion Turbine with Exhaust Fired Two Stage 2500 ton Absorption Chiller. Turbine efficiency 28%; over 70% CHP efficiency, with only 15 ppm NOx.

Alternative 2 – CHP with Solar Taurus 65 Turbine & 3000 ton Heat Recovery ABS Chiller: Solar Taurus 65 Combustion Turbine with Exhaust Fired Two Stage 3000 ton Absorption Chiller. Turbine efficiency 30%; over 80% CHP efficiency, with only 9 ppm NOx.

Alternative 3 – CHP with Solar Mercury 50 Turbine & 1000 ton Heat Recovery ABS Chiller: Solar Mercury 50 Combustion Turbine with Exhaust Fired Two Stage 1000 ton Absorption Chiller. Turbine efficiency 38%; over 80% CHP Efficiency, with only 5 ppm NOx.

Alternative 4 – CHP with Solar Centaur 50 Turbine with HRSG & 1000 ton Steam Driven ABS Chiller: Solar Centaur 50 Combustion Turbine with fired HRSG with steam for heating and for Two Stage Steam Driven 1000 ton Absorption Chiller. Turbine efficiency 28%; over 70% CHP efficiency, with only 15 ppm NOx.

Alternative 5 – CHP with Solar Taurus 65 Turbine with HRSG & 1000 ton Steam Driven ABS Chiller: Solar Taurus 65 Combustion Turbine with fired HRSG with steam for heating and for Two Stage 1000 ton Absorption Chiller. Turbine efficiency 30%; over 85% CHP efficiency, with only 9 ppm NOx.

Alternative 6 – CHP with Solar Mercury 50 Turbine with HRSG & 1000 ton Steam Driven ABS Chiller: Solar Mercury 50 Combustion Turbine with fired HRSG with steam for heating and for Two Stage 100 ton Absorption Chiller. Turbine efficiency 38%; over 75% CHP Efficiency, with only 5 ppm NOx.
