Burns & McDonnell is actively developing CHP projects across the nation. Our most recently completed CHP project for Austin Energy is a 4.5 MW combustion turbine based CHP system incorporating a 2500 ton exhaust fired absorption chiller. This system provides power and cooling for the Domain, a mixed use industrial park in Austin, Texas. Ground-breaking recently occurred for a second project in Austin for a similarly sized CHP system which will serve the new Dell Children's Medical Center.
Both of these projects involve significant participation and support by the Department of Energy (DOE) and Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). The Domain CHP project is designated a DOE Milestone project and, as such, is undergoing an extended performance review and documentation effort.
Please read on farther in this section for more information on these projects.
